Marks & Spencer is considering introducing a loyalty card scheme provisionally named ‘Sparks’ in the next few months, according to reports.

The M&S loyalty card will reward both M&S food and general merchandise customers, Reuters reported today. The card would provide exclusive benefits and personalised offers rather than collecting points for cash spent.
A spokesperson for M&S told Retail Week: “At our recent prelims presentation we said that being more in-touch with our customers was one of our priorities for the year ahead. However, we would not comment on rumour and speculation about future activity.”
Last month, the retailer reported its first profits increase in four years.
Marks & Spencer has faced difficulties after replatforming its website away from Amazon in February last year to be fully controlled in-house. The retailer reported online sales 2% down over the year, but during its fourth quarter it achieved positive sales once more with a 13.8% increase.
Boss Marc Bolland said at the time: “You need to build the infrastructure to launch a more contemporary business and be competitive going forward.”
Earlier today, M&S was named as one of the first retailers to adopt Apple Pay when it comes to the UK next month.
