Poundland’s trial of its online delivery service has been extended to new postcodes in the Midlands and Yorkshire, meaning it is now available to more than 7 million UK consumers.
The new areas served by the trial include postcodes throughout Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry and Telford, as well as Sheffield. The value retailer has also extended the range of products available to online shoppers in the trial, with more than 3,000 items for sale online.
The items in the online store will be priced at the same rate as products found in Poundland’s 850 stores across the UK, with a fixed delivery fee of £4 regardless of order size.
As part of the extended trial, Poundland has launched a new online-only category for the first time featuring exclusive items not available in stores, including Slimfast bars and Yankee Candles.
The pilot is based out of the company’s fulfilment centre in Cannock, Staffordshire, with the retailer partnering with Hermes to provide logistics services.
The trial began early this year and was tested by 18,000 Poundland colleagues and selected guests, before being extended to Birmingham and Walsall postcodes in May and Stoke-on-Trent, Derby, Wolverhampton and Dudley in June.
Retail and transformation director Austin Cooke said: “After a positive response to our initial pilot, we opened the trial to more areas in the Midlands and now we’re making another move which will take us across a big part of the Midlands and into Yorkshire.”
The value retailer has also launched its first schoolwear clothing range this week following the news that it is now a top 20 clothing retailer due to the demand for its Pep&Co brand.
