Snacks specialist Greggs, famous for its sausage rolls and steak bakes, is to open a “fine dining bistro” in department store group Fenwick’s Newcastle flagship.
The eatery will open on December 1 and trade until New Year’s Eve. Diners will be offered options such as Greggs Benedict – a sausage, bean and cheese melt ”reimagined” with smoked ham, poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce – and teas with a Greggs Christmas Cake slice and Earl Grey crème brûlée.
Meals will be served in a “Parisian-inspired space” and presented under silver cloches by waiters in Bistro Greggs aprons, white shirts and ties. The menu was created by Fenwick executive head chef Mark Reid in collaboration with Greggs.
Fenwick strategic partnerships director Leo Fenwick said: “Fenwick and Greggs are two brands at the heart of the local community with a commitment to doing good and we are thrilled to be partnering with a much-loved brand, bringing a unique and delicious twist to the everyday Greggs experience at Fenwick.”
Greggs customer director Hannah Squirrell said: “The launch of Bistro Greggs marks a watershed moment as we take our first step with Fenwick into classic French-inspired fine dining. Showcasing popular favourites across our menu, we’ve created an accessible menu featuring eloquent dishes with a Parisian twist, elevated through Fenwick’s gastronomic excellence and expertise.”
Previously Greggs has paired up with Primark to open Tasty by Greggs cafes in the fashion retailer’s stores. Primark also created a range of Greggs clothing.
