John Lewis is revamping its electronics, home and menswear departments.
The revamp will debut at its new Stratford City store, opening September 13, and will be the standard for all of its new and refurbished stores.
The changes will allow customers to interact with products including the full electricals and home technology range and design elements of their home, according to John Lewis.
Customers will also be able to buy additional services such as product set up and support.
The move is part of John Lewis’ £250m investment in its portfolio throughout 2011.
John Lewis managing director Andy Street said: “The development of these new retail concepts will create a more aspirational shopping experience by allowing our customers to interact with products. This will really set us apart on the UK high street.”
The retailer’s buying and brand director Peter Ruis said: “The provision of additional services will enable us to get closer to our customers’ needs. It will work seamlessly with our online offer, to reflect the multichannel nature of the majority of electrical purchases.”
Its home department will be refurbished to make it easier to navigate and more accessible. Its new Home design Studio will include product-led visual merchandising to help customers picture how the products work in their homes.
Ruis said: “It will enable customers to spread out swatches of materials and wallpaper to pull together a look for their home under the guidance of our home advice team.”
The department store’s menswear department has also been refreshed with new brands such as Thomas Pink, Farah 1920, Cro Jack and a new men’s jewellery collection added.
