Marks & Spencer IT director Darrell Stein is to join consumer goods giant Reckitt Benckiser as senior vice-president for information services.

Stein, who has been at Marks & Spencer for eight years, will succeed Gareth Hill and will have a seat on Reckitt Benckiser’s executive committee.

It emerged last week that Stein was to leave M&S but it was not revealed then where he was moving to.

Reckitt Benckiser owns household and healthcare brands such as Cillit Bang, Clearasil, Durex and Harpic.

Stein is one of the best-known technology leaders in retail and has been spearheading the modernization of many of M&S’s systems. Most recently he oversaw the move off Amazon’s platform as M&S ramps up its ecommerce operations.

Until late 2012 Stein was also responsible for M&S’s logistics but the role was split when former General Motors executive Dirk Lembregts was hired as supply chain director.

As well as Stein, M&S’s property director Clem Constantine will also leave this summer.
