eBay has launched a trade-in option in the UK to give customers the opportunity to give new life to their old tech while making extra money.

Popular devices across eight different categories are included in the new trade-in service, including phones, tablets, smartwatches and consoles with no fee.

The marketplaces partner Fonehouse will inspect, repair and refurbish devices to give them a new life through the eBay store.

Those trading in devices can enter the details of the product to find out how much the item is worth, and then they have 14 days to send off the device. Fonehouse will then securely erase the product data with the item insured upon postage.

Customers can then choose how they receive the money from their traded-in device, either through an instant eBay coupon to go towards an upgrade, or receive payment directly to their bank account.

Those who trade-in selected devices from December 9 to January 3 will receive an extra £50 on top of the assessed trade-in value.

What’s more, from 9 December 2024 to 3 January 2025, customers who bring in selected items will receive an additional £50 on top of the devices valued at trade-in.
