Value fashion retailer Matalan has appointed former Marks & Spencer digital boss Jeremy Pee to its board.
Pee, who left Marks & Spencer over the summer after spending five years there, is joining Matalan as a non-executive.
Pee played a key role in M&S’ digital transformation programme. As chief digital and technology officer, he oversaw the development of its app and Sparks loyalty programme. He has also worked previously for big retailers Loblaws and Staples.
Matalan chair Karl-Heinz Holland said: “We are delighted to welcome Jeremy to the board. He brings deep retail experience and unparalleled expertise in digital and technological transformation.
“I know both will prove hugely valuable as we refine and deliver Matalan’s omnichannel strategy to serve families better. We look forward to working with Jeremy as we continue to transform the business.”
Pee said: “Matalan is a stalwart of British retailing with a rich heritage operating in a market with strong growth opportunities. I look forward to working with the board and the executive team to unlock the full potential of digital and omnichannel retailing to build a stronger, more modern Matalan.”
Matalan’s lenders took control of the retailer from founder John Hargreaves and his family earlier this year. The lenders pledged £100m of investment and have brought in new management, led by chief executive Jo Whitfield who formerly ran the Co-op’s food division.
