The retailer has selected IDM Software’s data-mining tool LossManager, which is being integrated with ORIS CaseManager system and should go fully live early next year.
This will allow its loss-prevention team to detect and investigate fraud. And, in addition, the audit department will also use the system.
Jaeger head of safety and security Steve Hearn said that two potential frauds had been uncovered by the system during the implementation phase. In the longer term, he expects the system to be even more valuable “as a business standards tool for uncovering process error”.
He said that his staff will be able to use the system to fish for clues if they have a hunch about a fraud and also follow up leads reported via its whistle-blowing line.
The system also produces exception reports to alert the loss prevention team to unnoticed problems. Jaeger is planning to load 12 months’ historical data into the system as a base for exception reporting.
LossManager examines EPoS data and will also take data feeds from Jaeger’s supply chain, time and attendance and buying and merchandising systems. Hearn is also considering integrating Jaeger’s CCTV system with LossManager.
He added that, while the system is easy to use, some training will be required for staff to get the most out of it: “It is very intuitive and works in a Microsoft environment. The skill is in identifying what to ask the system to go out and find.”
